This portrait of a young man in a warrior stance is offset by the tattooed figure of a female warrior on his chest, and rose milfoil tapestry behind him. This piece represents the empowerment that ensues from owning one’s softer side, and balancing the yin/yang of our nature. It is inspired by my Trauma Resiliency work with veterans with PTSD, in which they reclaim their humanity and move from “dehumanized” to “re-humanized.” It was created using a sanded charcoal technique.
